About the role

Fluence is seeking a Director of Power Conversion & Electrical Systems to own the global category strategy and commercial execution for the AC power electronics portfolio, which includes power conversion systems, inverters, transformers, UPS, and electrical and electronic controls. The role also leads the Advanced Procurement function, partnering with Engineering and Product on new product introduction, early supplier involvement, and design‑for‑cost initiatives. Reporting to the Vice President of Power and Systems, this director is one of two category leaders responsible for Fluence’s non‑battery direct materials portfolio, currently representing approximately $1.2 billion in annual spend and projected to exceed $5 billion within three years. Cost reduction and leveraging rising volume are primary measures of success.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute Fluence’s global category strategy for AC power electronics.
  • Manage commercial execution across power conversion systems, inverters, transformers, UPS, and related controls.
  • Lead the Advanced Procurement function, collaborating with Engineering and Product teams on new product introductions and early supplier engagement.
  • Drive design‑for‑cost initiatives and negotiate supplier contracts to achieve year‑over‑year unit cost reductions.
  • Build and evolve the supplier base, capacity commitments, and commercial structures to support rapid growth.
  • Partner with the other Director‑level category leader to oversee the full non‑battery direct materials portfolio.
  • Monitor and manage a spend portfolio of approximately $1.2 billion, with a strategic outlook toward $5 billion in three years.
  • Apply deep technical knowledge of power electronics to challenge suppliers on bill‑of‑materials and cost structures.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship within the supply chain organization, positioning for broader supply‑chain responsibilities.

Fluence’s culture is built on four core pillars: Unleash Voices, Customer Fluent, Infinite Impact, and All In. The company encourages openness, active listening, and decisive action, values diverse perspectives, prioritizes customer satisfaction, pushes boundaries to deliver sustainable solutions, and fosters an ownership mindset to accelerate growth and create lasting success.
