Director, Engineering - Transportation

On-siteEngineeringFull-time

About the role

Quanta Infrastructure Solutions Group (QISG) leverages Quanta’s comprehensive resources to deliver collaborative solutions for energy infrastructure needs. QISG uses in-house talent, expertise, and resources to plan, design, engineer, manage, conduct maintenance on, and construct projects. Turnkey service capabilities provide customers with efficiency, consistency, attention to detail, and safe execution. The QISG team brings together Engineering, Safety, Quality, Material Procurement, QA/QC, Right-of-Way Acquisition, Scheduling, Environmental Planning, Permitting, Title and Land Management expertise to ensure outstanding results for clients.

QISG is a rapidly growing interdisciplinary engineering company within the Quanta Services family. Quanta Services ranks #1 on the ENR 2024 Top 600 Specialty Contractors list, designing and building some of the largest infrastructure projects in North America. QISG is seeking a transportation engineering leader and subject matter expert (SME) to represent QISG’s in-house transportation expertise in support of large-scale infrastructure projects in North America.

The Director serves as an SME and functional leader for QISG’s transportation practice within the Transmission & Substation (T&S) Engineering organization. This role develops QISG’s capability to address constraints impacted by engineering on large/major projects early, from site selection and due diligence through design and construction support, and serves transportation engineering SME and Engineering Project Management (E-PM) functions that integrate engineering, permitting, and procurement on EPC and design-build programs. The position reports to the Sr. Director and/or Vice President of Engineering. The Director will lead and develop transportation engineering capacity, oversee subconsultant design, and collaborate with QISG’s internal civil, geotechnical, structural, GIS, environmental, permitting, procurement, and construction teams. The successful candidate has deep technical credibility, is comfortable interfacing with utility and engineering design leads, and works effectively with ambiguity and limited supervision.

  • Coordinate with internal multidisciplinary teams, including Planning, Construction, Structures, Environmental, Right-of-Way, and Permitting, to deliver integrated transportation solutions.
  • Serve as the technical liaison between QISG/Quanta and client leadership, including state DOTs, transit authorities, and municipal agencies, building and maintaining long-term relationships.
  • Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and regulatory changes, and integrate best practices into the engineering processes.
  • Develop project budgets, schedules, and resource plans and lead project performance reviews for assigned projects.
  • Contribute to building the practice: recruit, mentor, and train engineering staff; provide input on resource planning to support growth; and develop engineering controls, QA/QC procedures, design standards, and templates while fostering a culture of safety, quality, and integrity.
  • Support business development through client meetings, proposals, and qualification statements, and work with Quanta operating companies to promote QISG’s capabilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
