Director, Engineering
About the role
Ibotta is looking for an Engineering Director to lead our team in building remarkable products while influencing the stability and quality of our technology. Our engineering team is organized cross-functionally by squads that build the platform powering our app, used by millions of consumers. This is a hybrid position located in Denver, Colorado, requiring 3 days in office (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). Candidates must live in the United States. A relocation bonus is available for those moving to Denver.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deploy new strategies for building a highly engaged development organization that delivers predictably and aligns with customer needs.
- Inspire and mobilize individuals and teams to achieve results.
- Ensure timely delivery of engineering solutions to meet business needs while providing transparent progress updates.
- Communicate technical concepts to business stakeholders and business objectives to the technical team.
- Collaborate across functional areas to define and prioritize technical solutions that support business needs, efficiencies, and revenue.
- Collaborate with external partners on onboarding, technical solutions, and development timelines.
- Partner with Product Management and Architecture to prioritize, scope, and plan business milestones and set goals.
- Foster an organization that balances technical debt vs. feature delivery.
- Coach and develop engineering managers; address technical, resource, and personnel issues.
- Support technical innovation and lead the creation, refinement, and enforcement of development standards to ensure sustainable competitive advantage.
- Build an organization with high technical competence that strives for excellence.
- Identify opportunities where AI can replace manual processes or create new revenue streams, contributing to Ibotta's financial trajectory and competitive positioning.
- Drive long-term technology strategy by treating AI as a core utility, championing data literacy and AI fundamentals across engineering, and identifying automation opportunities that multiply team productivity.
- Use AI to build solutions, improve quality of life, team processes, and production systems when possible.
- Research new technologies to stay abreast of industry trends and standards.

Requirements
- 5+ years of engineering management experience.
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering.
- Experience managing managers and leading multiple teams.
- Experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders including customers, senior management, and other business leaders.
- Skilled in agile software development and management.
- Exposure to multiple languages and frameworks as either an engineer or manager.
- Experience with security, cost, performance, scale, and reliability strategies.
- Highly effective performance manager, comfortable managing team members with different skill sets and technical expertise.
- Motivated by a fast-paced and adapting environment.
- Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication.
- Experience with cloud-based data architectures and platforms (AWS preferred) and DevOps culture. DevSecOps is a plus.
- Experience with event-driven architectures and platforms is a strong plus.
- Understanding of native mobile app development and frontend web development is a great extra.

Pay
Base compensation range: $189,000 - $214,000. Total compensation includes a variable component in addition to base salary. Equity is included in the overall compensation package. This range is specific to the United States labor market and may be adjusted based on experience.
