About the Role

This position manages the operations of the Emergency Department under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer. Responsibilities include ensuring 24/7 management accountability, promoting evidence-based practices, and leading initiatives to foster a patient/family-centered environment. The role involves transforming care delivery, managing staff, directing and delegating patient care assignments, and collaborating with senior management and providers to ensure appropriate resources for internal and external customers.

Serves as an advocate for staff and patients/families, establishes collegial relations with physicians, handles financial responsibilities of the department, and acts in place of the Chief Nursing Officer when assigned. Responsible for carrying out the mission, vision, values, and quality commitment of Houston Healthcare.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures 24/7 management accountability for the Emergency Department.
  • Assists in promoting evidence-based practices and leads initiatives for patient/family-centered care.
  • Manages staff providing patient care and directs/delegates assignments based on needs.
  • Collaborates with senior management, directors, managers, and contract providers to ensure resource allocation.
  • Serves as an advocate for staff and patients/families.
  • Establishes collegial relations with physicians.
  • Handles financial responsibilities of the department.
  • Acts in place of the Chief Nursing Officer when assigned.
  • Oversees timely completion of staff evaluations.
  • Develops and manages departmental budgets.
  • Coordinates, plans, and conducts effective meetings.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a BSN degree.
  • Five (5) years of clinical nursing experience.
  • Previous supervisor/management experience.

Qualifications

  • Current US state RN license with authorization to practice in Georgia.
  • Current AHA/ARC BLS certification.
  • Current AHA ACLS certification or obtained within nine (9) months of hire.
  • Current AHA/ARC PALS certification or obtained within nine (9) months of hire.
  • CPT training within 9 months of hire.

Skills

  • Proficiency in using diagnostic and patient care equipment.
  • Ability to utilize personal protective equipment (e.g., gloves, gown, mask).
  • Proficiency with standard office equipment and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience with Midas, Quadrant, and Intranet/Internet use.
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills.
  • Skilled in conflict resolution, critical thinking, task management, and prioritization/delegation.
