Position Overview

The Director of Digital Shelf Content leads the day-to-day operations and delivery performance of MPG’s Digital Shelf Content team across creative, copy, and content optimization services. This role is responsible for translating the division's strategic direction into scalable processes, high-quality deliverables, strong client experiences, and measurable business results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Leadership and Delivery

    • Lead the day-to-day operations of the Digital Shelf Content division across creative, copy, and content optimization workstreams.
    • Translate strategic priorities into actionable plans, team assignments, processes, and delivery standards.
    • Oversee project timelines, scope, budgets, deliverables, dependencies, and potential risks.
    • Establish and maintain project trackers, capacity plans, workflow documentation, and reporting that provide visibility into team performance and client delivery.
    • Identify operational issues early and implement solutions that improve quality, efficiency, profitability, and scalability.
    • Ensure the consistent use of approved processes, templates, playbooks, quality assurance procedures, and retailer-specific best practices.
    • Partner with project managers, strategists, creative team members, copywriters, syndication teams, account leads, and offshore resources to coordinate successful project execution.
  • Content Quality and Performance

    • Maintain accountability for the quality and effectiveness of digital shelf content produced by the team.
    • Provide strong creative direction and quality oversight across PDP imagery, A+ Content, brand stores, retailer content, and other digital commerce assets.
    • Build deeper expertise in eCommerce copy strategy, search optimization, retailer requirements, and copy quality standards to provide balanced leadership across creative and copy services.
    • Monitor content performance and apply available data, shopper insights, competitive findings, and testing results to improve future recommendations.
  • Client Leadership and Cross-functional Integration

    • Maintain strong relationships with assigned clients, serving as a trusted leader for content delivery, performance, and ongoing account needs.
    • Provide consistent and proactive client communication throughout each project lifecycle.
    • Lead or support client onboarding, project status meetings, content reviews, and operational planning sessions.
    • Support Quarterly Business Reviews by presenting delivery results, content performance insights, strategic recommendations, and opportunities for account growth.
    • Identify potential service expansion opportunities within existing accounts.
  • Resource and Project Management

    • Manage team capacity and assignments across active client work, new projects, ongoing retainers, and internal initiatives.
    • Recommend staffing, freelance, offshore, vendor and cross-functional resource needs based on current demand and projected growth.
    • Mentor and develop team members through regular feedback, coaching, performance management, and professional development planning.
    • Foster a collaborative and accountable team culture that values quality, responsiveness, continuous improvement, and innovation.
  • Business Development Support

    • Support project pricing, staffing assumptions, scopes of work, timelines, for proposal development.
    • Validate that proposed deliverables, budgets, and schedules are operationally realistic and appropriately resourced.
    • Provide case studies, delivery models, resource requirements, and examples of creative and content excellence to support business development.
  • Financial and Project Management

    • Maintain an accurate project and opportunity tracker that provides visibility into upcoming work, resource needs, and potential revenue.
    • Manage Vendor selection, payment and invoice validation.
    • Contribute to annual planning and budgeting by providing operational forecasts, staffing needs, utilization insights, and delivery requirements.
    • Develop and maintain operational performance measures that support better decision-making and continuous improvement.

    Success Measures

    • Consistent, on-time, and high-quality digital shelf copy and creative content across all online retailers and per project delivery.
    • Strong client satisfaction, retention, and account growth.
    • Improved management of project scope, utilization, and profitability.
    • Adequate adoption of scalable processes, playbooks, and quality standards.
    • Effective support of proposals, pricing, and new business initiatives.

    Skills & Experience

    • Demonstrated experience leading digital commerce, digital shelf, creative content, or eCommerce content programs.
    • Strong expertise in creative content development and digital commerce visual best practices.
    • Working knowledge of eCommerce copywriting, SEO, keyword strategy, retailer requirements, and content performance measurement, with the ability to deepen this expertise during the first several months in the role.
    • Experience managing multiple client projects, competing priorities, budgets, timelines, and cross-functional teams.
    • Strong client leadership, presentation, communication, and relationship management skills.
    • Ability to coach team members, delegate effectively, provide constructive feedback, and establish accountability.
    • Commercial understanding of project scoping, resource planning, utilization, pricing, and profitability.
    • Ability to balance strategic thinking with detailed operational execution.
    • Curiosity about AI, automation, content technology, and emerging digital commerce practices.

    Compensation

    The expected base salary range for this position is $130,000 - $190,000 annually, depending on experience, skills, and qualifications. In addition to base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based bonuses and other compensation programs.
