About the role
Skylo is hiring a Director, Corporate Communication & Strategy to develop and drive our company's narrative and brand across all stakeholders—internal and external. This is a foundational role responsible for defining the direct-to-device satellite category, building our reputation, driving thought leadership, and ensuring consistent, compelling messaging that supports our enterprise brand with consumer flare. You will position Skylo as an indispensable innovator in the market, both as an essential ingredient and as a standalone brand.
How You Will Contribute
- Team Leadership & Alignment: Oversee and align the Marketing and Design functions; ensure a cohesive strategy and execution across all brand touch points, from public relations and content to digital design and co-marketing campaigns.
- Category Creation & Thought Leadership: Drive conversation-shaping activities, creating moments and thought leadership to shape industry conversation and news, including securing speaking engagements for executives at top-tier forums such as CES, MWC, TED, Aspen Ideas, SXSW, and the World Economic Forum.
- Strategic Communications: Develop and lead a comprehensive communications strategy that builds awareness, enhances reputation, and drives understanding of our unique value proposition for both enterprise partners and end-consumers, including promoting “Powered by Skylo” and “Skylo Certified” elements and fostering a strong, independent consumer brand identity.
- Internal Agency: Serve as the internal brand and communications agency to support partner marketing and sales enablement; build efficient processes for clear hand-offs.
- Narrative Stewardship: Steward the company narrative, ensuring that everyone is equipped and empowered to tell the same powerful, consistent story; create simple, repeatable narratives and messages for employees, partners, press/influencers, investors, government regulators, and consumers.
- Media Relations & PR: Build and maintain strong relationships with key journalists, analysts, and influencers in both business/tech and consumer/lifestyle media; act as an influence builder focused on authentic relationships that validate Skylo’s technology as the “standard consumers seek.”
- Content Strategy & Narrative Development: Collaborate closely with Marketing and Partner teams to ensure a consistent, compelling, and differentiated brand voice across all external communications, including press announcements, thought leadership articles, website content, and social media—encompassing both “Powered by Skylo” messaging and direct consumer brand storytelling.
- Executive Communications: Develop and execute communication plans for executive visibility, including speaking engagements, media interviews, and internal communications, framing thought leadership to support both partner and consumer narratives.
- Crisis Communications: Develop and implement robust crisis communication plans, serving as the lead strategist to anticipate sensitive situations and protect and maintain brand reputation.
- Social Media & Community Engagement: Oversee the company’s social media strategy, ensuring engaging content and fostering a vibrant community around the brand and partner ecosystem, with clear differentiation between co-branded and standalone consumer content.
- Team Building & Agency Management: Over time, build and mentor a small in-house brand and communications team and manage external PR agencies and freelance contractors to maximize impact and efficiency.
- AI-Enabled Content Operations: Build and maintain a prompt library for recurring communications formats—launches, executive voice, crisis holding, and co-marketing briefs.
- Media Intelligence: Use AI-assisted monitoring to surface coverage trends, competitor moves, and story opportunities weekly.
