Director Construction - Gas Power Generation

About the Role

The Director of Construction is a readily available resource who provides leadership and develops other leaders through mentoring and overall construction management direction in an assigned market segment or assigned projects. They enforce best practices, process utilization, quality, safety, and risk management while ensuring the company’s fundamental values and beliefs are followed and maintained. This role builds and organizes strategic client alliances to create a climate of mutual trust and respect, recognizing the importance of three key constituents: the success of our client, the success of our employees, and the success of the company. This position can be remotely based in the U.S., with regular travel required.

Responsibilities

• Assume full responsibility for assigned clients by building outstanding relationships to strengthen the company’s marketable position.
• Regularly meet with clients to determine their needs, success metrics, and how Blattner can add value to their business.
• Control and monitor construction through the direction of project managers and on-site supervision to ensure projects are built on schedule, within budget, and in alignment with corporate policy.
• Provide proactive and intentional leadership in developing safety and quality programs and culture for project teams.
• Verify and ensure client quality and safety metrics are attained by project managers.
• Oversee the internal financial aspects of projects, including receivables, budget, cash flow, income/expenses, cost-to-completes, and cost management reports to protect the company’s interests.
• Develop subordinate project managers and their teams through performance evaluations, mentoring, formal training, and planned exposure to diverse work experiences.
• Qualify candidates as possible successors to Director of Construction positions.
• Collaborate with general superintendents and peer Directors of Construction to select project managers and site teams for successful project execution.
• Manage functions such as wage reviews, work assignments, bonus reviews, and internal promotions.

Requirements

• Four-year construction management, engineering, or related degree.
• Five or more years of directly relevant experience with utility-scale natural gas power generation, heavy industrial, or EPC field execution.
• Demonstrated skills or knowledge in construction techniques, estimating, construction management, financial management, construction design, and administrative functions.
• Proven experience in directly leading more than one project team simultaneously.
• Strong understanding of construction engineering and design concepts.
• Understanding of electrical construction and power delivery.
• Conceptual skills and ability to develop thorough work plans and management schedules.
• Knowledge of estimating strategies and techniques.
• Knowledge of construction contracts, construction regulations, and cost control systems.
• Excellent written, presentation, and verbal communication skills.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to organize, utilize, and motivate team members quickly to respond to changes in the construction schedule.
• Conflict management skills.
• Ability to strategically work within an approved budget, conserve resources, and contribute to profits and revenue.
• Excellent organizational, supervisory, and decision-making/problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite programs, Primavera, and CTC net.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Extensive travel required.

Skills

• Primary construction experience with reciprocating engine power plants, modular/skidded aeroderivative turbine installations, modular simple-cycle gas plants, and fuel cell power generation systems, including associated balance-of-plant, fuel gas systems, and interconnection scopes.
• Construction experience including combined-cycle (CCGT) gas power generation (heavy-frame turbines, HRSGs, steam turbine systems, cooling systems, and high-energy piping), larger-frame simple-cycle (OCGT) power generation, midstream oil and gas infrastructure (pipelines, compressor/pump stations, gas processing/treating facilities, gathering systems, gas storage, and terminal/tank farm facilities), and heavy industrial construction (e.g., petrochemical, refining, or other complex process facilities).
• PMP Certification (preferred).

Pay

$215,562.00 - $312,565.00. Individual compensation to be determined based on the applicant's applicable experience and qualifications balanced against internal equity.
