About the role
The Director of Construction and Development oversees and implements capital construction programs. This role manages complex development projects from inception to completion, collaborating with various stakeholders to meet financial and operational goals.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute large and complex construction projects, including new construction, major remodels, and renovations.
- Manage day-to-day construction activities to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
- Lead project teams, including internal and external project managers, consultants, and contractors, to ensure projects comply with all applicable codes and regulations.
- Build relationships with senior management and business leaders across the organization to understand their needs and integrate them into project scopes.
- Communicate with executive leadership teams regarding construction activities, progress, and potential impacts on other departments.
- Manage the bidding and contracting process for construction projects, ensuring that all bids cover the full scope of work.
- Ensure project financial health by tracking expenditures and forecasting costs for strategic decision-making.
- Develop and lead the department's strategic vision, set project management standards, and enforce accountability with the team.
- Supervise project management staff, design individual development plans, and implement succession planning for key roles.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field required.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in Architecture, Engineering, Construction, or Construction Management, overseeing large, diverse, and iconic hospitality, entertainment, and mixed-use developments.
- Minimum eight (8) years of vendor management and/or supervisory experience required.
- Proficiency with reading blueprints, plans, specs, contracts, purchase orders, change orders, etc.
- Organized and able to manage multiple tasks and adhere to tight deadlines.
- Culturally competent and effective in a multi-cultural environment.
- Strong leadership and people management skills, including motivational and collaboration emphasis; ability to communicate change effectively and build commitment.
- Experience with organizational transformation and developing effective operating models in large-scale, complex organizations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, Bluebeam (or similar), PowerPoint, and SharePoint.

Physical Requirements
- Sedentary work: involves sitting most of the time.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
- Physical activities that apply to the essential functions of the position are balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
- Hearing sufficient to hear conversational levels in person, via videoconference and over the telephone.
- Speech sufficient to make oneself heard and understood in person, in front of groups, in meetings, via videoconference and over the telephone.
- Visual acuity that meets the requirements of the position: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading and visual inspection of employees, visitors or facility.
- Mobility sufficient to safely move in an office environment, walk, stoop, bend and kneel, and enter, exit and operate a motor vehicle in the course of travel to promotional events, meetings, conferences, trade shows and San Manuel properties.
- Endurance sufficient to sit, walk and stand for extended periods, and maintain efficiency throughout the entire work shift and during extended work hours.
- The employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles including secondhand smoke.
