Director, Construction
About the role
We are seeking a Director of Construction to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5-7 years of experience managing a construction team in multi-unit retail environments. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously are essential. Proficiency in project bidding, negotiations, budgeting, planning, and project management is required.
Responsibilities
- Create and manage budgets aligned with project timelines
- Develop work specifications that support operational needs and budget requirements
- Prepare bid summaries for new stores and remodels for review by leadership
- Review, approve, and log all invoicing with regards to construction related items
- Work closely with accounts payable to assure projects are within budgets
- Forecast and advise if budgets are in jeopardy of overruns
- Maintain project progress, construction and development schedules within the budgeted guidelines
- Inspect on-site work periodically to ensure accuracy of reports, resolve disputes or problems, and ensure consistency in details and construction standards between all projects
- Develop and document all required agreements and notices
- Work with leadership on contract variations to ensure proper documentation is executed
- Prepare and issue standard contracts for General Contractors, Architects, and other consultants
- Review lease agreements as required to assist the Real Estate, Lease Administration, and Facilities departments in construction-related items and issues
- Participate in Real Estate Pipeline meetings and present timing and budgetary forecasting for new and existing store projects to Senior Leadership
- Develop and maintain relationships with external vendors to ensure timely provision of materials and products as well as to negotiate pricing for provision of services
- Review contractors' insurance certificates for conformance with company and contract requirements
- Perform plan checks on all Construction Documents, ensuring consistent plans and coordination between site specific fixture floor, prototype plans, and job specific documents and Real Estate agreements
- Ensure that all contractual materials, contracts, change orders are executed meeting company guidelines, properly signed, and coded with project numbers
- Supervise Construction Project Manager and Architectural Design teams, providing clear expectations and timely/relevant performance feedback
Requirements
You must have a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Architecture or Construction Management or a related field, or relevant experience. You should have a minimum of 5-7 years of experience managing a construction team in multi-unit retail environments. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously are essential. Proficiency in project bidding, negotiations, budgeting, planning, and project management is required.

Pay
CA Pay Range is $175,000 to $220,000 annually

Hybrid Work Location: You will spend time at our Alameda, CA Home Office based on business needs.
