Job Overview
The Allied Therapy Supervisor oversees the development, scheduling, and implementation of structured group therapies and structured therapeutic activities across adult and child inpatient psychiatric units at the New Point Campus. This leadership role supervises a multidisciplinary clinical team—including occupational, creative arts, and recreation therapists—while drawing on evidence-based practices to introduce innovative program elements to the milieu. The Supervisor balances direct clinical care with programmatic administration, ensuring regulatory compliance, outcome evaluation, and high-quality mentorship for staff, students, and interns.
Qualifications
Valid New Jersey Allied Therapist License or equivalent professional certification (e.g., OTR/L, ATR-BC, LCAT, CTRS).
Minimum of one (1) year of specialized clinical experience in a psychiatric setting.
Demonstrated competency in clinical supervision, training, or mentoring within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Strong baseline of leadership, organizational, and evidence-based program development capabilities.
Scheduling Requirements
Full-Time (FT) Day
Essential Functions
Supervises, monitors, and evaluates the daily clinical performance of staff occupational therapists, creative arts therapists, recreation therapists, and occupational therapy students.
Develops, implements, and continuously revises the schedule of group therapies and structured activities for acute inpatient units (including STCF/2N, 2S, 2D, and 3N/S) in collaboration with the AIPU Director and Nurse Manager.
Provides direct allied therapy services by facilitating scheduled group and individual treatment sessions for patient populations.
Collaborates with the Nurse Manager to coordinate and arrange operational coverage for therapeutic activities and inpatient groups during staff absences to maintain continuity of care.
Conducts timely occupational therapy screenings for newly admitted child and adult inpatient populations within 24 hours of admission to assess further intervention needs.
Adds targeted, individualized clinical interventions to the multidisciplinary plan of care during active participation in patient treatment planning meetings.
Serves as the designated site supervisor, preceptor, and mentor for incoming employees, occupational therapy students, and psychology/counseling interns.
Trains, mentors, and guides Bachelor's-level Mental Health Workers (MHW) in the proper delivery of psychoeducation and structured patient leisure activity groups.
Integrates evolving treatment models and evidence-based best practices into the core inpatient curriculum to support continuous program development.
Designs and executes clinical outcome studies to measure the efficacy of group and milieu therapies across the inpatient service lines.
Conducts internal in-service training and educational consultations to maintain staff competencies and ensure strict compliance with outside accrediting agency regulations.
