Director & Assistant General Counsel, Privacy

Location: Farmington, CT (Hybrid)

About the role

As Director and Assistant General Counsel, Privacy, this lawyer will serve as a subject matter expert on privacy law within the RTX Corporate Legal, Contracts and Compliance (LCC) organization. You will provide advice and counsel to RTX and its businesses on all aspects of privacy law and assist the Chief Privacy Officer in the design, implementation, and ongoing oversight of RTX’s global data privacy program.

Responsibilities

• Advise and counsel RTX and its businesses on all aspects of privacy law
• Monitor and help shape privacy laws, regulations, government policies, and similar, as well as develop and strengthen external relationships with industry and government partners, groups, and regulators
• Assist with the development, implementation, and maintenance of policies, standard work, playbooks, guidance, templates, and other documentation
• Develop and deliver training on privacy law, including training for Privacy Professionals and Data Protection Officers, as well as general awareness training for employees, contractors, and others
• Provide legal advice and counsel on all aspects of data breach response and management, and ensure timely satisfaction of legal reporting obligations
• Review privacy impact and other privacy assessments and support data inventory activities
• Participate in and support the annual privacy self-assessment program, the internal audit testing of privacy controls, and other program effectiveness monitoring efforts
• Provide legal advice and counsel on privacy insurance matters, including on RTX’s privacy insurance policies and program
• Provide legal advice and counsel on the privacy aspects of mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures (MA&D), including on MA&D agreements, representations and warranties, and diligence
• Manage outside counsel and vendors engaged on privacy legal matters

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate University Degree and minimum 14 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 12 years of experience
• Minimum of 10 years of relevant law firm and/or in-house experience with proven investigative, analytical, written and oral communication skills
• Knowledge of U.S. and global privacy and data protection laws, regulations, government policies, and similar
• Previous experience advising and counseling clients on privacy and/or data protection matters

• Strong sense of ownership and accountability and ability to make decisions efficiently and quickly
• Experience working in both corporate and business legal functions
• Experience advising and counseling clients on data breach, privacy compliance, and privacy aspects of transactions and contracts
• Expertise in U.S., European, and other international privacy and data protection regulations
• Background in privacy and/or data protection, and possession of related certifications (e.g., CISSP, CIPP)

Pay

The salary range for this role is 186,200 USD - 353,800 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Schedule

This is a hybrid role. Employees will work regularly both onsite and offsite. The ratio of time working onsite will be determined in partnership with your leader.
