Director, AI Platform

About the role

This role sits at the intersection of business strategy, advanced analytics and AI engineering. The Director will define the AI platform vision and lead a team of engineers to build and operate technical capabilities that enable the development and management of AI solutions which are practical, scalable and value-driven. The AI technology leader will be both forward looking and pragmatic—pushing innovation while meeting the business where it is and guiding the organization toward where it needs to be next.

Key Accountabilities

• Defines and owns the AI platform strategy including architecture, technologies, usage patterns, and long-term roadmap.
• Supports and enables the design and execution of the AI Roadmap(s) in partnership with AI Leadership, Enterprise partners and stakeholders.
• Supports the identification and defines the levels of AI-Fluency in support of workforce skills and capabilities, informing tech talent investment, upskilling and development.
• Leads the design and evolution of scalable AI platforms; owns technology decisions related to AI services, vendors and internal tooling; establishes Cargill standards for AI technology governance.
• Establishes AI guardrails to govern technology decisions and use, ensuring responsible, secure, and ethical AI adoption.
• Enables teams across the organization by providing reusable platforms, patterns and expertise to accelerate AI adoption.
• Defines a long-term AI technology strategy that incorporates emerging trends and aligns with business priorities.
• Partners closely with business and technology leaders to bridge business challenges and AI effectiveness.
• Acts as a trusted AI advisor, aiding leaders in making informed decisions and strategies for AI readiness and application.
• Ensures financial discipline in AI project execution, managing team budgets and contributing to value creation through cost-effective resource management.
• Manages team members to achieve organizational goals by setting performance expectations, aligning goals, providing coaching, measuring progress, holding people accountable, supporting development, recognizing achievement, and fostering an inclusive team culture.

Qualifications

• Minimum requirement of 6 years of relevant work experience; typically reflects 10 years or more of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience leading companywide GenAI and/or AI platform design and operations.
• Practitioner knowledge of AI governance, security and regulations.
• Experience building enterprise-scale platforms deployed in production.
• Experience managing federated teams and operations.

Pay

The expected salary for this position is $145,000–$235,000. Compensation varies depending on location, certifications, education, and level of experience. The disclosed range estimate may be adjusted for any applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. This position is eligible for a discretionary incentive award based on company and personal performance.
