Director Advanced Practice Provider - Ambulatory and Primary Care

About the Role

This position supports Ambulatory and Primary Care Service Lines. The Director of Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) provides leadership, direction, and oversight of APPs within specific Service Line(s), leading a team of APP managers who oversee teams of APPs (Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, Clinical Nurse Specialists, and Nurse Midwives). The role involves developing collaborative relationships with operational and clinical leadership to support system initiatives, ensuring consistent practice and oversight of APPs, and collaborating with independently employed APPs on updates relevant to their practice. The Director also promotes recruitment and retention of high-caliber APPs and maintains a clinical practice as part of their leadership role.

• Directs top-of-license practice within Service Line(s).
• Serves as a team mentor while providing development opportunities for APP Leads and Managers of APPs.

• Promotes evidence-based practice and lifelong learning.
• Drives cultural and organizational activities that support OhioHealth.
• Recruits, develops, and retains skilled APP leaders for their respective practice areas.
• Strategically deploys resources to meet organizational needs, continuously assessing APP operations to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Ensures all regulatory, accreditation, and clinical standards are met, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of statutory and regulatory requirements for APRN and PA practice at state and national levels.
• Develops goals and implements processes to support the balanced scorecard.
• Maintains direct oversight of specified area(s), including APP clinical and performance evaluations, personnel development, and other pertinent HR tasks.
• Develops and manages budgets for the area, including participation in provider workforce planning.
• Maintains a clinical practice as defined by the clinical job description, with direct patient care expected to comprise 10% of the role. Flexibility of time allocation is based on varying needs and responsibilities.
• Focuses on safety, quality, and efficiency in performing job duties as part of a High Reliability Organization (HRO).

Qualifications

• APN - Advanced Practice Nurse - State of Ohio Board of Nursing.

Specialized Knowledge

• Experience with accrediting bodies and knowledge of The Joint Commission (TJC) standards.
• Understanding of Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and professional billing and practice standards.
• Knowledge of current trends in PA and APRN practice, as well as healthcare delivery systems.
• Full knowledge of all requirements of advanced practice positions, roles, and practice, including competencies, certifications, state and board of nursing and medicine regulations, and licensing.
• Able to foster relationships with hospital administration, APPs, physicians, and other leaders.
