About the role

This position directs the work of a team of actuaries, long-term projects, and work streams or provides insight and guidance to projects requiring unique skills. You will set or participate in setting strategy, develop compelling written and oral presentations for high-level decision-making, and demonstrate expert-level understanding of actuarial concepts, multiple actuarial areas, and at least one business segment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures appropriate modeling is performed and the team continues to develop technically.
  • Develops and drives strategy for the most appropriate tools, technology, and resources for the team.
  • Complies with, monitors staff for compliance with, and ensures areas have appropriate monitoring for all applicable compliance requirements and Actuarial Standards of Practice.
  • Communicates effectively across the company and with external parties, ensuring information reaches all levels of the organization.
  • Recommends courses of action based on a 360-degree view of the business and develops compelling written and oral presentations for high-level decision-making.
  • Determines strategies to develop and improve key relationships internally and externally.
  • Directs the work of a team of actuaries and possibly non-actuaries, managing long-term projects and work streams.
  • Sets the strategy for success in the area and manages/develops a team of managers and potentially analysts.
  • Supports, guides, and prepares managers for difficult conversations with staff.
  • Drives and demonstrates a continuous improvement culture in the department.
  • Oversees the annual budget and allocates resources for projects and operational needs.
  • Translates needs and initiatives into compelling business cases.
  • Conducts cost-benefit analyses to justify investments and ensure ROI.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or Economics. Other degrees may be considered.
  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and Membership in the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA). In place of FSA, 4 years of actuarial experience in the health insurance field at the ASA level may be substituted.
  • Compliance with all membership requirements for each professional designation.
  • At least 7 years of actuarial experience in the health insurance or related field.
  • Verbal and written communication skills to prepare effective documentation, facilitate training, and participate in presentations.
  • PC proficiency in Word and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Individual and Small Group health insurance products, including level-funded products.
  • Knowledge of ACA market dynamics, risk adjustment, rate development, product strategy, and regulatory requirements.

Schedule

Hybrid role, in office 3 days per week.

Pay

Compensation range: $133,400.00 - $247,700.00. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
