Our Energy operations consist of natural gas gathering systems, distribution services maintenance, facilities construction, and water distribution. Gas distribution is the largest segment in the pipeline distribution portfolio, offering network design and construction or rehabilitation services for gas networks across Canada and the United States.

Reporting to the Superintendent, the Directional Driller will be responsible for all phases of any directional drilling tasks directed by the Site Foreman in order to meet or exceed client expectations.

Please note that this position is unionized, therefore it will be a requirement to join the union upon acceptance.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct pre-trip/walk-around safety inspection.
  • Ability to operate Horizontal Directional Drill and/or locating equipment independently and safely.
  • Provide technical support to clients and crew members as required.
  • Keep abreast of all directional drilling techniques and all surveying methods.
  • Manage inventory and supplies.
  • Coordinate machine actions with other activities, positioning or moving of loads, and conduct in response to hand or audio signals from team members.
  • Understand and analyze locate marks, stakes, and property markers.
  • Ensure all reporting requirements are fulfilled and communicated daily to the Foreman or Coordinator.
  • Able to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Work with commitment to timelines and deadlines on a daily basis.
  • Adhere to site and Aecon-specific policies and regulations.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision as directed by the Site Foreman.
  • Maintain excellent communication between members of the team and clients.
  • Ability to train, coach, and mentor new hires.
  • Work as a member of the team by assisting other members when required.

Requirements

  • Horizontal directional drilling experience or training.
  • CSTS-2020 Certificate.
  • Ground Disturbance II (Global or Aztec).
  • Experience running Vermeer or Ditch Witch HDD drills.
  • Familiarity with Digitrak Locating Equipment (F5, F5 Falcon) is an asset.
  • Valid driver's licence.
  • Ability to lift and handle materials up to 25 kg.
  • Complete client site-specific training as required.
  • Thorough knowledge of state-of-the-art drilling and surveying technologies and practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with managers, peers, and clients.
  • Regular travel to project sites will be required on occasion.
  • Candidates will be required to complete a pre-employment Drug & Alcohol screen.

Pay

The expected pay range for this role is $37.91 USD per hour as per the current Collective Agreement. Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
