About the role

The Directional Drill Operator Locator assists the Drill Operator in locating drill heads and drilling according to blueprints to verify locate marks and confirm facility locations. Key responsibilities include interpreting underground transmitter signals, setting up and calibrating directional drilling equipment, conducting pre-drilling surveys, collaborating on project planning, implementing environmental impact measures, addressing challenges, maintaining equipment, adhering to safety guidelines, troubleshooting, and maintaining records.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret underground transmitter signals to guide the Drill Operator
  • Set up and calibrate directional drilling equipment
  • Conduct pre-drilling surveys to determine drilling paths and identify potential obstacles
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and team members to plan and execute projects
  • Implement measures to minimize environmental impact
  • Address challenges and obstacles encountered during drilling
  • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of drilling equipment
  • Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues during drilling
  • Maintain accurate records of drilling activities, equipment usage, and project progress
  • Collaborate with the installation team for fiber optic cable pulling, splicing, and testing

Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you should have:

  • Strong understanding of directional drilling principles and practices
  • Experience with underground transmitter signal interpretation
  • Proficiency in using directional drilling equipment and survey tools
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and best practices
  • Good record keeping and documentation skills
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record
