Direct Tax State Income Tax Sr Mgr

Tasks and Responsibilities

• Provides content and support for all state income tax activities in scope.
• Serves as a content and compliance expert for state income tax matters across legal entities.
• Interprets new and changed tax laws and regulations, applying them to legal entities in scope.
• Collaborates with US Tax R2R/Partnering team, Tax GPOs, and GBS to optimize tax processes through continuous improvement, automation, and data quality initiatives.
• Identifies and implements practical technology and AI use cases in state income tax processes, focusing on stronger controls, better documentation, improved reviewability, reduced manual effort, and sustainable knowledge transfer to GBS Costa Rica.
• Ensures quality at source by collaborating with enabling functions and divisions, where applicable.
• Assesses new and changed business scenarios to minimize tax exposures and risks, working closely with Direct Tax Lead and internal and external partners.
• Collaborates with and supports internal Bayer and external advisors in their work.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Law, or Tax.
• Deep knowledge in Direct Tax, Tax procedural law, and Tax Accounting.
• Excellent knowledge of local tax law and regulations related to direct taxes and specifically state income tax.
• High competency in organizational networking and partnering with internal and external stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA certification or equivalent.
• 12+ years of professional work experience in tax, preferably in an industrial, consulting, or tax administrative environment.
• Hands-on experience in ERP software, tax recording, tax calculation, and tax reporting tools.

Location and Compensation

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $146,714 to $220,071. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant).

This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.

The selected candidate should reside within travel distance to either the Creve Coeur, MO or Whippany, NJ site.
