As a Direct Support Specialist, you'll play a a vital role in serving people with intellectual and development disabilities. Who will love this job: An advocate -- you will stop at nothing to make sure people have the tools necessary to do set them up for success A go-getter - you're always looking for ways to add value, do better work, improve processes, build others up, and make the world a better place A mediator - you naturally draw people together while remaining calm and focused, even in emotionally charged situations Here's what you'll do as a Direct Support Specialist: Assist individuals in Independent Living (all live in their own apartments). DSS will be expected to attend scheduled visits with the individuals. Visits may include any of the following requirements: Assist people served in the handling of money and finances. Provide transportation and assist people served with accessing services in the community. Assist people served with general housekeeping, grocery shopping, meal preparation, and laundry. Escort individuals to medical, dental, or therapy appointments and assist them in communicating with healthcare providers. Provide medication monitoring and/or administer prescribed medications and treatments. Maintain accurate, daily logs of shifts, tracking progress toward goals outlined in the individual’s Individualized Service Plan.
