About the role
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides comprehensive support to individuals with Intellectual Disabilities, helping them live independently and participate in their communities.
Responsibilities
- Establishes rapport and positive relationships with individuals, respecting their dignity and rights.
- Supports individuals in maintaining their living spaces, including daily living activities and personal care.
- Delivers services according to individualized plans and positive behavioral programs.
- Fosters involvement in social and community activities, ensuring personal safety and promoting health.
- Provides companionship, problem-solving discussions, and assistance with medical, psychological, and dental appointments.
- Encourages the use of natural supports and facilitates access to community resources through transportation.
- Contributes to the development of Individual Plans and collaborates with community providers for quality care.
- Enters and tracks data using agency electronic systems, reporting on IP teaching, ADL strategies, behavioral, and medical needs.
- Attends and participates in staff and other meetings, completing assigned tasks.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree preferred in a related field.
- High School Diploma or equivalent with relevant experience in a human service field.
- Valid Connecticut Driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Certification as a Direct Support Professional preferred.
- Completion of CPR & First Aid, PMT, and other required certifications through DDS and CoC.
- Basic computer skills to navigate agency electronic records, access email, and complete documentation.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and overnight shifts as required.
