About the role

The Direct Support Professional assists clients with the daily routine of the program and monitors client safety. This position also has primary responsibility for all non-billable tasks that are necessary for efficient unit functioning and client safety.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the proper procedure is followed during the intake process
  • Ensure intake and discharge paperwork is complete and accurate
  • Complete all required daily documentation timely and accurately including shift reports, staff notes, daily census tracking, etc.; maintain check-out log for electronics, scissors, razors, and other identified items
  • Maintain unit supply inventory and restocking, intake/discharge packets, and client orientation folders
  • Supervise visitations, and client telephone privileges, and implement safety procedures
  • Supervise mealtimes and ensure clients’ snacks are distributed as required
  • Report all incidents to a supervisor and ensure completion of event reporting is timely
  • Ensure shift reporting is completed at the beginning and end of every shift and staff notes are entered for any client concerns that occur during the shift
  • Monitor the completion of the client’s daily chores and provide supplemental cleaning as needed to ensure the cleanliness of the unit; ensure client rooms are cleaned following discharge
  • Lead activities calendar and curriculum schedule and provide support to clients beyond group therapy and assist them with therapy homework as needed; assist Clinicians with program needs
  • Participate in client staffing as assigned
  • Act as a resource liaison and support the client in communicating referral needs to the clinician when appropriate
  • Provide transportation as needed
  • Support clients in attending community support groups and encourage them to connect with group members for additional support

Requirements

Required Education And Experience:

  • A high school degree or equivalent
  • A valid driver’s license, reliable operating transportation, and proof of current auto insurance

Preferred Education And Experience:

  • Experience working in a residential behavioral health setting
