About the role
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for providing comprehensive support to individuals with Intellectual Disabilities, helping them live independently and participate in their communities.
Responsibilities
- Establish rapport and positive working relationships with individuals, maintaining professional ethical standards and boundaries.
- Provide hands-on support for activities of daily living, personal care, and social activities.
- Support individuals in achieving their goals and aspirations, including attending medical, psychological, and dental appointments.
- Encourage the use of natural supports and foster involvement in community activities.
- Provide companionship and problem-solving discussions.
- Track and report daily data for individual plans, including ADL strategies, behavioral, and medical needs.
- Attend and participate in staff and other designated meetings.
- Complete other client care tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree preferred, High School Diploma or equivalent with relevant experience considered.
- Valid Connecticut Driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Certification as a Direct Support Professional preferred.
- Completion of CPR & First Aid, PMT, and other required certifications through DDS and CoC.
- Computer skills to navigate agency electronic records, access email, and complete documentation.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and overnight shifts as required.
