Part-time position (less than 20 hours weekly) with the South Dakota Developmental Center in Redfield, SD. Schedule is flexible and based on need, including one four-hour weekend shift per month. This position does not include health or flexible benefits and is not SDRS eligible.

About the role

We are seeking a Direct Support Professional to work with an interdisciplinary treatment team, carrying out therapeutic disciplines to help individuals served at the South Dakota Developmental Center (SDDC) develop to their fullest potential. This role positively impacts lives by implementing individual training, behavior management, and therapy programs, while providing guidance on life skills, academic skills, and work skills to ensure appropriate social interaction.

Responsibilities

  • Address the physical and emotional needs of people served
  • Make effective decisions in emergencies
  • Lead individuals in assigned tasks and provide academic guidance
  • Follow established policies, procedures, and teaching or treatment plans
  • Accurately observe and report individuals’ behavior and responses to treatment
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with staff and persons served
  • Provide work direction to staff regarding methods to assist people with developmental disabilities
  • Prepare routine reports

Requirements

  • Techniques used in conducting teaching plans for people with developmental disabilities
  • Understanding of basic social skills and principles of human behavior
  • Knowledge of safety procedures, basic health care, and protective health measures
  • Ability to address the physical and emotional needs of people served
  • Successful completion of a background investigation, including abuse and neglect screening
  • Pass a drug screening and verify identity/eligibility to work in the United States (Form I-9 and E-Verify)

Pay

Starting pay is $20.47 per hour, with shift differentials: an additional $1.00 for Fridays and Mondays, and $2.00 for Saturdays and Sundays. Pay ranges from $20.47 to $24.08 per hour, depending on qualifications.
