About the role
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) at the South Dakota Developmental Center (SDDC) is responsible for implementing various therapeutic programs and ensuring a structured, healthy environment for individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Responsibilities include teaching plans, behavior management, and therapy, guiding life skills, academic skills, and work skills, and maintaining a safe and supportive atmosphere.
Responsibilities
- Conduct teaching plans for people with developmental disabilities
- Manage behavior and implement therapy programs
- Provide academic guidance and support
- Follow established policies and procedures
- Observe and report individuals' behavior and responses to treatment
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with staff and individuals served
- Directly supervise staff in assisting individuals with developmental disabilities
- Prepare routine reports
Requirements
- Knowledge of techniques used in teaching plans for people with developmental disabilities
- Understanding of facility routines and basic social skills
- Principles of basic human behavior and safety procedures
- Basic health care knowledge and protective measures
- Physical and emotional needs of people served
Qualifications
- Ability to be a positive role model
- Make effective decisions in emergencies
- Lead assigned tasks and provide guidance
- Accurately observe and report individuals' behavior

Pay
The starting salary range for this position is $20.47-$24.08 per hour, with additional differentials based on shift and weekend work.
