Principal Duties/Responsibilities

  • Implements and documents each person’s progress toward formal and informal goals and objectives as outlined in each person’s Individual Service Plan (ISP).
  • Implements each person’s self-medication plan as outlined in the ISP.
  • Safeguards each person’s health and safety by ensuring they receive well-balanced nutritional meals.
  • Aids each person in completing personal hygiene and grooming tasks, providing additional assistance as needed.
  • Maintains appropriate attire for each person based on weather conditions.
  • Transports individuals using the Ada S McKinley Community Living Services van and accompanies them to necessary community outings, including shopping and participation in recreational activities and religious services.
  • Maintains annual certification in First Aid and CPR.
  • Completes Ada S McKinley required training, re-training, and any additional training as required by Ada S McKinley policies and practices, or as assigned by his or her immediate supervisor.
  • Successfully completes the Medication Administration Training and maintains the ability to pass medications.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or general education equivalent.
  • Up to 2 years of college education preferred.
  • A valid driver’s license, working vehicle, car insurance, and a good driving record are required.
  • The selected candidate must be 18 years old or older.
  • Requires 6 months of DSP/CNA/Caregiver/Customer service experience with an interest in working with disabled individuals.
  • Must be able to work 16 hours per pay period.

  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity to the client population served.
  • Possess the ability to partner with clients individually and/or in families to mobilize resources and build resilience.
  • Possess the ability to coordinate effectively with other team members, agency resources, and external services to address client needs.
  • Possess an understanding of evidence-informed practices, engagement strategies, boundary setting, concurrent documentation, working in a community setting, organizing, motivational interviewing, and family systems.

Mental/Physical Demands

  • Sitting, walking, and standing for prolonged periods.
  • Frequently grasping, lifting, holding, or feeling objects.
  • Occasionally stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • Frequent use of manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Assist and support up to 50 pounds with varying amounts of assistance on a reoccurring basis.
  • Corrected vision and hearing within normal range.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.

Environmental Conditions

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Work is performed in an office or classroom environment.
