Direct Support Professional (DSP) - Part Time

The Arc of Cumberland and Perry Counties in Carlisle, PA is seeking a part-time entry-level Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide direct care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The lack of services for people with disabilities led a group of parents to band together in 1953 to form The Arc of Cumberland and Perry Counties (CPARC). For decades, children and adults with disabilities were systematically denied educational opportunities, vocational training jobs, housing, and almost every other right and service that people without disabilities took for granted. Today, our staff continues to advocate for people with disabilities; offer tools and training to help families; and ensure that individuals live, work, and play in their community. A Day in the Life of a Direct Support Professional (DSP)

As a Direct Support Professional (DSP), you support people with disabilities to live their best lives as independently as possible. You assist with activities of daily living such as:

• Household maintenance
• Transportation
• Administration of medications
• Grocery shopping
• Meal preparation
• Personal care

You build strong relationships while learning each individual’s differences in ability, personality, interests, learning, motivation, likes, and dislikes to provide the best care. The role is rewarding as you support people with disabilities to live amazing lives according to their own needs and desires.

Qualifications

• At least 18 years of age
• Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle during working hours
• Punctual and reliable
• Ability to keep track of multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Flexible and patient
• Respectful, discreet with confidential information, and honest
• Enjoy helping people

Pay

Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) earn a competitive wage of $17.55/hour plus an additional $1/hour shift differential.
