Job Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) supports the individual goals of the person served and helps them become integrated into his/her community in the least restrictive manner. The DSP may assist in areas of mobility, activities of daily living, communication, cognition, health management, social networking, vocational, leisure time management, and community participation.
What You’ll Do
- Maintain safety 24/7 through monitoring and ensuring safety measures are taken
- Prevent, intervene, and resolve crises
- Build collaborative relationships based on trust and empathy through consistent communication
- Foster partnerships with individuals served, the community, and other professionals
- Help build effective skills for problem-solving, communication, and independence
- Aid in social and leisure activities such as transport, escort to stores, concerts, movies, and in-house events
- Support daily living activities like getting to and from places, dressing, bathing, grooming, toileting, and meal preparation
- Monitor vital signs for medical conditions or illnesses
- Attend medical appointments and relay information accurately
- Implement and document care plans provided by medical, behavioral, and/or clinical teams
- Connect individuals with community opportunities and resources
- Support career goals, employment, and educational interests
Required
- High school diploma/GED
- Valid State of Michigan driver's license
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
- CPR/First Aid certification
- Commitment to scheduled shifts, assigned duties, and performance expectations
