Direct Support Professional - Day

About the role

Pine Belt Mental Healthcare Resources is seeking a Direct Support Professional to assist in a day program serving adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Gulfport, MS.

Responsibilities

• Assist with daily activities
• Provide emotional support
• Supervise community outings
• Support treatment plans in partnership with clinical staff
• Facilitate meaningful day activities
• Foster the acquisition and maintenance of skills
• Build positive group, individual, and interpersonal skills
• Enhance personal independence and choice
• Seek employment opportunities and work in competitive integrated settings
• Control personal resources
• Train participants in skills and conduct daily activities
• Train and document for IDD day programs
• Eat lunch and take breaks on site
• Remain on site for the entire workday, except as authorized by supervisor
• Maintain community involvement, social interactions, and relationships
• Assist with job exploration, application, and training on job-specific duties
• Enhance natural supports in the workplace to facilitate independence

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Must be able to obtain MS CDL Class C Driver's License within 60 days of hire
• Valid Mississippi Driver's License with satisfactory driving record (no moving violations within 3 years)
• Will pass CPR, MANDT, and other required testing
• Experience working with the IDD population preferred

Qualifications

• Experience assisting others with ADLs preferred
• Act as models for appropriate behavior
• May provide transportation to and from facilities and to and from activities in the community
• Perform other work-oriented tasks as assigned by supervisor

Skills

• Ability to communicate effectively with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
• Strong interpersonal and observational skills
• Knowledge of community resources and services
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
