Direct Support Staff

The Direct Support Staff is responsible for providing the supports needed to promote and empower the people supported in Inclusive Living Services - Community Living.

• Help people realize their personal goals, become valued members of their communities with equal rights, and provide opportunities to make choices and engage with other people, especially peers.
• Create and foster experiences in the community that are sustainable over time, based on the person's wants/needs/age/interests.
• Ensure each person's safety and well-being, while assisting in managing personal needs and maintaining a safe living environment.
• Supervise and assist in managing home-related tasks such as cleaning, cooking, and medication management.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalency or at least 18 years of age and one year of experience.
• Valid US driver’s license.
• Effective verbal & written communication and computer skills.
• Fluency in reading and writing English.
• Ability to assist with activities of daily living, including personal care.
• Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds with assistance.
• Capable of enduring prolonged standing or walking and frequent bending, stooping, reaching, pulling, and pushing.
• Pass a 6th-grade math and reading test in English as required by the Maryland Board of Nurses.
