About the Role
The Direct Support Professional helps care for and support residents with their daily needs. You’ll help them with personal care, daily routines, and activities in and out of the home. You’ll also follow each person’s care plan, record important information, and make sure everyone stays safe, comfortable, and respected.
Responsibilities
- Work under the direction of the Unit Manager, LPN, and other supervisors.
- Help residents with personal care, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and other hygiene needs.
- Aid with meals and feeding, following each resident’s diet and doctor’s orders.
- Assist with health-related needs such as taking vital signs, G-tube feedings, or other care you are trained to do.
- Report any health or behavior changes to the nurse.
- Keep rooms and common areas clean, safe, and well-organized.
- Follow each resident’s program plan, helping them reach goals and take part in activities.
- Support behavior plans and encourage positive interactions.
- Write clear and accurate notes about care, goals, and daily events.
- Participate in team meetings, training, and staff discussions.
- Treat every resident with respect, dignity, and kindness.
- Help keep the environment home-like and calm.
- Clean and take care of equipment and report anything that needs repair.
- Join in day programs, recreation, and therapy sessions.
- Go with residents to appointments or community outings.
- Follow all safety and emergency procedures.
- Be flexible and willing to help where needed.
- Be on time and ready to support your team.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must be 18 years or older
- Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License (required for some shifts)
- Able to sit, stand, and walk for several hours each day
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Able to bend, squat, and kneel when needed
- Able to move and assist residents safely
Pay
Starting at $17.70/hour, with opportunities for advancement and additional compensation based on experience and responsibilities.
