Direct Support Professional
What You'll Do
- Provide training, coaching, mentoring, and counseling to people with disabilities in the areas of appropriate work attitudes, employability, work skills specific to individuals' employment, social and communication skills, use of adaptive equipment, and positive behavioral change in consultation with team members.
- Utilize positive behavior management techniques in accordance with Commonwealth of Virginia guidelines and MANDT behavior protocol.
- Ensure all individuals receive the required training to enable them to meet their maximum potential.
- Help train newly enrolled individuals by assisting with the transition process.
- Aid in the development and utilization of virtual learning.
- Aid in individuals' personal needs as needed.
- Perform mobility training/transport for individuals as needed.
Reporting & Compliance
- Train, monitor, and support a group of individuals in the Employment Services or Group Day programs.
- Complete required reporting documents.
- Audit sites for regulatory, procedural, and policy compliance.
- Familiarize yourself with and exercise the applicable personnel practices and policies of the work site, including OSHA standards and uniforms.
- Complete all required training to maintain licensing requirements and participate in training to develop professional skills as needed and requested.
Case Management
- Establish and maintain good communication with parents, guardians, residential counselors, and other professionals regarding the individuals' overall progress.
- Cook up the schedule for individual group training and community access outings.
Qualifications
- Associates degree in Human Services, Behavior Management, Psychology or related field OR equivalent experience.
- 1 year or more of experience working with people with disabilities in a vocational or residential setting is strongly preferred.
- Customer service experience is acceptable as an alternative.
- Computer literacy, particularly with Microsoft Office applications.
- The skill to interpret and apply curriculum to effectively support individual learning.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to network with community members.
- A valid driver's license (required).
