Direct Support Professional
Pay Rate: $15/hour
Schedule: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 8:00am-3:30pm
Location: The Cog, Homestead, PA
About the Role
This is an entry-level role in the day program department. The position is primarily responsible for following all health and safety protocols outlined in each individual’s ISP by adhering to the policies and practices of the department, which follow state regulations. Clear and thorough, consistent communication and follow-up with all team members—including family, medical professionals, supports coordinators, behavior consultants, and other TCV staff and supervisors—is required.
Responsibilities
- Engage and interact with individuals in a positive manner, regardless of behaviors.
- Provide and ensure a safe environment, supervise individuals, follow program rules and routines, and report and document all safety-related incidents.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and aesthetically pleasing environment.
- Teach and assist individuals in Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as room cleaning, chores, laundry, and personal hygiene.
- Complete relevant documentation and paperwork, including Profiler, RADAR, assessments, group notes, data collection, and individual progress notes.
- Assist clinicians by reviewing service notes for quality, conducting observations, providing feedback for required trainings (e.g., Essential Skills), and serving as a mentor.
Requirements
- GED or High School diploma.
- Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and/or autism spectrum disorders preferred but not required.
- Valid driver’s license.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly work with individuals with unpredictable behavior.
- Frequent walking, standing, stooping, bending, kneeling; occasional sitting, running, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Vision and physical ability to operate vehicles.
- Regularly accompany individuals on off-site activities and appointments.
- Ability to perform CPR, First Aid, and Behavior Management physical interventions.
- Significant and frequent use of verbal and written communication.
- Must be free of dependency and abuse of illegal or illicit drugs, alcohol, inhalants, or other controlled substances.
