Direct Support Professional

Principal Duties/Responsibilities

• Implements and documents each person’s progress toward formal and informal goals and objectives as outlined in each person’s Individual Service Plan (ISP).
• Implements each person’s self-medication plan as outlined in the ISP.
• Safeguards each person’s well-being by ensuring they receive well-balanced nutritional meals.
• Maintains a clean living environment for each person and assists them with personal hygiene and grooming tasks as needed.
• Ensures each person is dressed appropriately according to weather conditions.
• Transports individuals in Ada S McKinley Community Living Services van and accompanies them to necessary community outings, including shopping and participation in recreational activities.
• Maintains annual certification in First Aid and CPR.
• Successfully completes the Medication Administration Training and maintains the ability to pass medications.

Requirements

• A high school diploma or equivalent.
• A valid driver’s license, working vehicle, car insurance, and a good driving record.
• At least 18 years old.
• 6 months of DSP/CNA/Caregiver experience required.

• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity to the client population served.
• Possess the ability to partner with clients individually and/or in families to mobilize resources and build resilience.
• Possess the ability to coordinate effectively with other team members, other agency resources, and outside services in addressing client needs.
• Possess an understanding of evidence-informed practices, engagement strategies, boundary setting, concurrent documentation, working in a community setting, organizing, motivational interviewing, and family systems.

Mental/Physical Demands

• Sitting, walking, and standing for prolonged periods.
• Frequent grasping, lifting, holding, or feeling objects.
• Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
• Frequent use of manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
• Assist and support up to 50 pounds with varying amounts of assistance on a reoccurring basis.

Environmental Conditions

• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
• Work is performed in an office or classroom environment.
