Direct Support Professional 3 (Full Time-Evening)

About the role

As a caregiver at Sevita, you’ll assist people with personal hygiene and support individuals who can have behavioral challenges and other complex needs. You’ll work in crisis homes providing support and supervision to persons served with disabilities and/or mental illness who need crisis intervention services and/or behavioral programs to rehabilitate, stabilize, and transition back to permanent housing.

Your role is to maintain safety and support individuals to be their best, both individually and within the community, while reducing distress and providing purpose in their lives. You’ll implement formal/informal crisis plans, program plans, and behavioral objectives using person-centered planning, maintain documentation, participate in regular meetings, and complete required training.

You’ll take initiative in responding to crises, monitor the safety of persons served, and provide support and supervision in a positive therapeutic manner using the least restrictive methods of positive intervention.

Responsibilities

• Assist individuals with personal hygiene and daily living activities.
• Support individuals with behavioral challenges and complex needs, including severe mental illness, crisis situations, and behavior supports.
• Implement positive redirection and behavior modification programs.
• Work with individuals with mental health conditions such as bipolar, schizophrenia, depression, anxiety, PTSD, substance use disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, intermittent explosive disorder, and antisocial personality disorders.
• Maintain safety and provide supervision in a positive therapeutic manner.
• Implement crisis plans, program plans, and behavioral objectives using person-centered planning.
• Maintain documentation, record-keeping, and participate in regular meetings.
• Respond to crises, monitor safety, and use least restrictive methods of positive intervention.
• Help participants build skills, overcome challenges, and reach their full potential.
• Support participants with developmental goals like budgeting, exercise, and nutrition.
• Encourage community participation and engagement in favorite activities.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 3 years of experience in human services, direct care, or care coordination (preferred).
• 3 years of experience working with individuals with severe mental illness, crisis situations, physical interventions, and behavior supports.
• Experience with challenging behaviors such as property destruction, manipulation, inaccurate reporting, elopement, paranoia, substance abuse, isolation, and/or self-injury.
• Experience using positive redirection and behavior modification programs.
• Valid Driver’s license and access to a registered vehicle with proof of insurance.
