Direct Support Person - DSP

Essential Duties

• Aid or perform programming to assist residents with disabilities achieve their Discovery Plan goals.
• Assist residents with maintaining personal hygiene by assisting with bathing, brushing hair and teeth, and other self-care needs.
• Change and wash soiled linens and/or clothing, and assist with laundry as needed.
• Participate in activities with residents, including transportation of residents.
• Assist residents with mobility as needed.
• Aid in the preparation of or prepare meals for residents.
• Absorb residents in maintaining a safe and sanitary bedroom and/or bathroom, including making beds, putting personal items away, and keeping floors clean and free of tripping hazards.
• Teach daily living skills, such as cooking, cleaning, and shopping.
• Daily cleaning of facility, laundry, bed checks (if shift requires), and water temperature checks (if required).
• Administer medication as directed.
• Complete required paperwork completely and accurately.
• Perform other tasks, not inconsistent with qualifications or regular duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Bending, standing, stooping, driving, lifting up to 25 pounds, and staying awake during assigned hours.
• Working around cleaning chemicals and kitchen appliances.
• Communicating clearly with adults with disabilities.

Safety and Accident Prevention

• Follow all safety policies and use necessary protective equipment when applicable.
• Report safety hazards and/or accidents to supervisors immediately.
