About the role
The DIRECT CARE SPECIALIST ensures the health, safety, and accountability of adults with development disabilities in residential facilities, homes, or Day Programs. The role involves transporting, feeding, lifting, transferring, administering medication, and assisting with ADLs.
Responsibilities
- Meets with family members and service providers to determine needs of clients
- Completes assessments and assists with the development of residential plans
- Provides and assists individuals living in their residential homes, including making appointments, referrals, and training
- Assists with activities of daily living such as bathing, grooming, dressing, feeding, and maintaining continence
- Transports clients for appointments and other needs
- Completes inventory, assists with shopping, manages clients' finances, advocates for clients, monitors health, and develops socialization skills
- Plans activities and outings, trains on safety, and prepares for disasters
- Maintains electronic health records
- Performs related work as assigned
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED
- Minimum of six months to one year of health care or related experience
- Valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving record
- CPR, First Aid, and/or Certified Nurse Assistant certification (preferred)
- Tentative selection requires a drug screening and background check
