Overview
Sentara Medical Group is currently hiring a Direct Care Registered Nurse-Endoscopy at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, VA. This position involves comprehensive patient care across the continuum—pre-operative assessment, intra-procedure assistance, and post-procedure recovery—for a variety of outpatient and inpatient procedures. The Endoscopy RN plays a critical role in ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality care for patients undergoing procedures in pulmonary, gastroenterology, and ear, nose, and throat (ENT) specialties.
Responsibilities
- Conduct patient assessments and preparations for endoscopic procedures
- Provide safe and effective support during procedures, including sedation monitoring and sterile technique
- Deliver post-procedure care, monitoring recovery and ensuring patient readiness for discharge or transfer
- Collaborate closely with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to ensure optimal outcomes
- Participate in on-call rotation as scheduled (6–8 call shifts/month, including at least one weekend)
- Design and implement personalized care plans, administer medications and treatments, and evaluate patient responses to interventions
- Educate patients and their families about health conditions, treatments, and post-discharge care
- Monitor and record vital signs, observe changes in patient conditions, and respond promptly with appropriate interventions
- Utilize sound clinical judgment to address complex health situations and consult with medical team members as needed
- Document all care in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards
Qualifications
- Education: Diploma RN, ADN, BSN, or MSN
- Licensure: RN License – Virginia/Compact/Multistate
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS); ACLS required after 90 days of hire
- Experience: Clinical experience preferred
Schedule
- Full-Time, Days – 4 days per week (Monday–Friday, 0730–1700)
- Call Requirements: 1–2 weekday call shifts (1700–0700) and 1 weekend per month
