Dining Services Retail Cashier

Job Summary

The Retail Cashier is responsible for providing outstanding customer service while accurately operating the point-of-sale (POS) system in the retail dining location. Customer service is the primary responsibility of this position; however, when customer traffic is slow or operational needs require, the Retail Cashier is expected to assist with food preparation, order fulfillment, stocking, cleaning, and other duties necessary to ensure the efficient operation of the retail location.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Greet every customer in a friendly, professional, and welcoming manner.
• Provide excellent customer service by answering questions and assisting customers with menu selections.
• Accurately process customer purchases using the point-of-sale (POS) system.
• Handle cash, credit card, meal plan, and other forms of payment accurately.
• Resolve minor customer concerns professionally and refer more complex issues to the Retail Supervisor when necessary.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting cashier station.
• Assist with preparing customer orders accurately and efficiently.
• Ensure orders are complete and meet quality standards before serving.
• Communicate effectively with kitchen staff regarding customer orders and special requests.
• Aid in packaging take-out and mobile orders.
• Restock beverages, condiments, paper products, grab-and-go items, and other retail merchandise throughout the shift.
• Maintain cleanliness of the cashier area, dining area, beverage stations, and retail space.
• Avoid cross-contamination and maintain proper food handling techniques.
• Work collaboratively with all Dining Services staff to ensure efficient operations.
• Perform additional duties assigned by the Retail Supervisor or management.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
• Previous cashier or customer service experience is preferred.
• Food service experience is a plus.
• Ability to accurately operate a point-of-sale (POS) system.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Dependable, punctual, and team-oriented.
• Ability to follow directions and work independently when needed.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Frequently lift up to 40 pounds.
• Ability to bend, reach, stoop, push, and pull throughout the workday.
• Ability to work in both customer service and food preparation environments.

Work Schedule

• Must be available to work mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events as required.
• Schedule may vary based on operational needs.
