Responsibilities

  • Assist in supervising daily food production and service operations within a main dining or food service unit.
  • Support overall administrative functions while ensuring consistent, high-quality operations.
  • Orient, train, and supervise employees to successfully carry out assigned responsibilities and prepare for increased responsibility.
  • Schedule staff effectively to meet business and operational needs.
  • Evaluate employee performance, providing recognition, coaching, and corrective guidance as needed.
  • Foster positive public relations with students, guests, and university personnel to create an exceptional dining experience.
  • Monitor customer service and proactively address questions, concerns, and service needs.
  • Order and requisition food and supplies in accordance with established specifications; recommend product pricing.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Any one or combination totaling two (2) years (24 months) from the following categories:
    • Coursework in business, dietetics, culinary arts, food science, nutrition, hospitality, hotel, catering, restaurant, or institutional management, or a closely related field as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
      • 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
      • Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
      • 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
      • Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
    • Food service supervisory work experience.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Supervisory ability.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Strong basic math skills.
  • Ability to pass food handler's exam/certification course.

Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, out-of-state candidates must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of the start date for this position. Illinois residency requires proof of a valid Illinois Driver’s License or state of Illinois ID Card.
