About the role
This position reports to: Digital Lead, Industry Solution.
Responsibilities
- Be the decisive consulting voice in high-stakes energy accounts — brought in by account managers when opportunities are complex, competitive, or stalled on technical credibility.
- Translate ABB’s digital portfolio (cloud, edge, IIoT, AI/ML, MES, advanced analytics, industrial automation) into quantified value propositions tied to client priorities: uptime, throughput, safety, energy efficiency, and decarbonization.
- Lead presales engagements: architecture sessions, live demonstrations, proof-of-concept delivery, and ROI modeling — credible enough to work alongside client engineers, not just present to them.
- Build trusted advisor relationships within strategic accounts that expand ABB’s footprint over time.
- Feed real market signal back to ABB’s global R&D and product teams; represent ABB’s digital capabilities at industry events as a recognized energy-sector practitioner.
- Document the winning engagement model into a replicable playbook; recruit and lead a team of digital solution consultants as the model is proven (Phase 2).
Qualifications
- Presales / solution consulting background: 10+ years in a client-facing technical role (presales, solution engineering, or technical advisory) where your involvement measurably contributed to winning complex industrial software or technology deals.
- Educational requirements: B.S. in Engineering (Computer, Electrical, Automation, Process, or Chemical) or equivalent technical certifications (Azure/AWS Architect, ISA/IEC 62443); MBA a plus.
- Energy industry expertise: Deep, credible knowledge of upstream, midstream, downstream hydrocarbons, chemicals, or power generation industries.
- Hands-on technical depth: Practical experience architecting cloud (Azure preferred) and/or edge solutions, industrial IoT platforms, AI/ML pipelines, and OT/IT integration. You can whiteboard an architecture and build a demo.
- Industrial automation fluency: Working knowledge of DCS, SCADA, historians, MES, and/or OT networks (ISA-95/IEC 62443), sufficient to earn trust from instrumentation engineers on-site.
- Communication range: Equally effective presenting a business case to a C-suite and troubleshooting architecture with a controls engineer in the same day.
- Work authorization: Permanent U.S. work authorization required; no sponsorship available.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in a presale capacity or solution consultant at an industrial OEM, automation vendor, or technology company.
- Experience defining or building presales practice: reference architectures, engagement methodology, or enabling account teams to qualify digital opportunities.
- Familiarity with energy transition and decarbonization use cases in industrial environments.
- Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Portuguese; existing network with operators, EPCs, or integrators in North or Latin America.
