About the role

The Business Unit Operational Risk Manager at Regions is responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory and legal requirements and organizational policies. This role involves leading compliance reviews, maintaining documentation, and providing guidance on operational risk management.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a bridge between first, second, and enterprise support units to ensure effective execution of the Operational Risk Framework across specified business lines.
  • Develops and conducts compliance reviews, oversees legal entities, business units, and processes, and maintains documentation and reports to management.
  • Monitors compliance with laws and regulations, provides requested information to regulatory agencies, and manages compliance processes.
  • Acts as a senior subject matter expert, guiding first, second, and enterprise support units on operational risk management, including risk and control self-assessments, new initiative risk assessments, operational risk/loss events, scenario analysis, emerging risk identification, and front-line risk assessments.
  • Manages remediation of operations risk/loss events, conducts root cause analysis, and recommends process improvements.
  • Analyzes new business initiatives and projects, manages associated risks, coordinates business continuity plans, and conducts annual training and business impact analysis testing.
  • Conducts quality control audits, works with business line operations departments, and serves as a liaison to internal and external auditors and the Regions Data Foundation.
  • Supports business units by understanding their needs, drivers, concerns, and future plans, and mitigating risks.
  • Conducts presentations and workshop sessions on risk identification and mitigation.
  • Ensures continuous improvement in operating procedures to avoid risks.
  • Maintains compliance with vendor risk management policy and regulations, reviews and analyzes contracts, agreements, and statements of work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • At least ten (10) years of experience in finance, risk, or operations, with significant experience in business line operations or underwriting.

Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to learn additional systems as needed.
  • Research, analyze data, and derive facts.
  • Work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
  • Strong verbal, written communication, and organizational skills.
  • Strong work ethic and self-motivation.
  • People management experience (3+ years minimum preferred).
  • Banking/finance experience needed and preferred.

Pay and Benefits

This position is exempt from timekeeping requirements under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay. It is incentive eligible. Pay ranges are job-specific and are provided as a point-of-market reference for compensation decisions.
