This is a full-time university staff position in Printing Services with a tentative start date of September 8, 2026. The role requires a six-month probationary period and reports to the Manager of University Printing Services.

Responsibilities

  • Operation and maintenance of high-volume digital copiers (50%)
    • Operate color and monochrome digital copiers and front-end software to scan, revise, resize, screen photos, and add page numbering in print production.
    • Impose and program jobs to meet customer specifications for paper weight, color, pagination, quantity, and finishing needs.
    • Review and adjust web print orders to ensure pricing accuracy before printing.
    • Enter orders into the Printing web order entry system when other staff are unavailable.
    • Evaluate and prepare workflows based on deadlines, time, and quantity, assigning jobs to appropriate equipment.
    • Coordinate web orders to interpret and ensure accurate printing of attached files and pricing.
    • Prepare and run queued jobs on high-speed digital copiers, verifying order accuracy.
    • Scan photos to sharpen images, apply halftone screens, crop, resize, and insert into documents.
    • Coordinate scheduling of periodic maintenance and immediate repairs for high-volume copiers to ensure uninterrupted workflow.
    • Assist with purchasing replacement supplies for high-speed digital copiers.
    • Maintain security and confidentiality of faculty materials handled by University Printing Services.
    • Operate and maintain other digital duplicating equipment.
    • Monitor use of the university seal and word mark in compliance with the University Standards Manual.
    • Ensure all print production pieces meet current mailing regulations.
  • Management and operation of Large Format Printer (15%)
    • Provide oversight and independent decision-making for the operation of the Large Format (LF) Printer.
    • Assist with the operation of the LF Printer.
    • Determine scheduling of orders to meet customer deadlines.
    • Contact vendors for issues and schedule repairs to align with department needs.
    • Meet with customers to identify new production materials that satisfy their needs and increase Printing Services sales.
    • Assist with purchasing supplies and production materials for the LF printer.
  • Operation and maintenance of bindery equipment (15%)
    • Operate all types of bindery equipment.
    • Complete bindery tasks required for print orders.
    • Assist in training and evaluating student employees in the bindery area.
    • Assist with scheduling maintenance and repairs of bindery equipment.
  • Purchase paper and supplies (10%)
    • Assist with determining and maintaining inventory levels for paper and other production supplies.
    • Order supplies from vendors following University Purchasing policy and procedures.
    • Verify shipments, process packing slips, and stock paper and supplies.
  • Miscellaneous duties (5%)
    • Serve as a technical resource for clients.
    • Act as a backup for the Sustainable Printing Program.
    • Assist with on-campus deliveries in the absence of student workers.
    • Assist with completing customer order forms when necessary.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of high-volume digital production printing and bindery equipment.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.

  • Experience in a full-service print shop.
  • Experience working with student workers.
  • Experience working in a team environment.

About the Department

The Printing Services unit is part of University Centers and consists of 5 staff members and 10 student workers.

Pay

The expected hourly hiring salary will be based on qualifications and experience.
