About the role
The Digital Preservation Manager reports to the Associate Dean, Digital Services, leading the development and implementation of the digital preservation program at SBU Libraries.
Responsibilities
- Develops and implements digital preservation strategies, policies, and projects to ensure long-term access to digital content.
- Maintains the library's digital preservation repository, Preservica, with the Head of Preservation.
- Provides technical guidance to digitization centers to ensure correct metadata and file formats.
- Affords technical support and advice to various library and campus systems, integrating digital preservation applications and workflows.
- Collaborates with colleagues across departments to design and implement efficient digital preservation workflows.
- Participates in library and campus committees, contributing to the field through research, presentations, and scholarship.
Requirements
- Master’s or advanced degree with relevant experience in digital preservation or related fields.
- One year of working experience in digital preservation or born-digital and digitized content.
- Demonstrated knowledge of digital curation life cycle, preservation metadata, and file format standards.
- Technical proficiency in digital preservation systems and tools, including cloud-based and standalone systems.
- Interest in emerging technologies, particularly AI, to streamline processes.
- Professional activities, including scholarly contributions and engagement in digital preservation communities.
Qualifications
- Relevant Master’s or advanced degree with commensurate experience.
- Experience in managing digital preservation programs.
- Knowledge of preservation metadata and file format standards.
- Technical skills in digital preservation systems and tools.
- Interest in leveraging emerging technologies, especially AI.
- Record of professional activities, including scholarly contributions and engagement in digital preservation communities.

Pay
$80,500 – $84,500, plus $4,000 location pay.

Fully remote, with occasional in-person meetings.
