Join the City of Des Plaines and shape how we communicate with over 60,000 residents through digital channels. This role focuses on social media, digital communications, website content, and online engagement to keep residents, business owners, and visitors informed and connected.
Responsibilities
- Manage and grow the City’s social media platforms, including content creation, scheduling, engagement, and performance tracking.
- Plan and execute digital marketing campaigns for City events, including email marketing and paid advertising (Meta, Google, etc.).
- Create compelling written, graphic, photo, and short-form video content that tells the City’s story and promotes City programs, services, and events.
- Manage and continually improve City website content to ensure information is current, accessible, user-friendly, and aligned with communication goals.
- Analyze the performance of digital communications and recommend strategies to increase community engagement and effectiveness.
- Assist in communicating urgent public information during emergencies, service interruptions, weather events, and other time-sensitive situations.
- Collaborate with departments and leadership to support communication goals.
- Attend and assist with City events and media coverage as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- At least 2 years of experience in digital media, marketing, or communications.
- Strong knowledge of social media strategy, content creation, and digital advertising, including photography and short-form video production.
- Experience with website management and content management systems.
- Familiarity with email marketing platforms and analytics tools.
- Understanding of ADA/WCAG accessibility standards.
- Strong writing, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Collaborative mindset with strong interpersonal skills.
- Valid Illinois Driver’s License or ability to obtain one.
- Ability to attend evening or weekend City events as needed.
Pay
Starting at $71,664.
Finalists will be asked to provide a portfolio showcasing examples of digital communications, social media campaigns, website content, graphic design, photography, and other related work.
