Digital Engineer (FPGA/VHDL Focus)

About the role

Actalent is seeking a Digital Engineer with strong VHDL and FPGA experience to support advanced communication and defense technology programs in San Diego, CA. This is a 12‑month contract position (with possible extensions and direct‑hire opportunity) requiring an active Secret clearance and full‑time onsite work.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, integrate, and test VHDL‑based digital and FPGA solutions.
• Support firmware development for software‑defined radio applications.
• Perform digital design verification and debugging activities.
• Collaborate with systems, hardware, integration, and test engineering teams.
• Analyze system requirements and resolve performance, functionality, and timing challenges.
• Work within Agile and/or traditional development environments.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related STEM field.
• Strong hands‑on experience with VHDL design and verification.
• Experience working with FPGA development tools and environments.
• Active Secret clearance required at start.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently or within a team.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $100.00 – $120.00 per hour.
