About the role
Fortis Solutions Group is seeking a Digital Die Cut Operator to join our production team. In this role, you will operate Delta 1, Delta 2, and CEI die cutting machines to die cut and apply laminate or UV varnish to digitally printed labels. The ideal candidate will have experience in printing, converting, or manufacturing and possess strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail while supporting high-quality label production in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Operate Delta 1, Delta 2, and CEI die cutting machines to die cut labels and apply laminate or UV varnish.
- Receive printed rolls from the digital press and process them through the die cutting equipment.
- Inspect incoming rolls and verify them against job orders (tickets).
- Set up the die cutting machine according to job specifications, including:
- Die selection
- Roll wind configuration
- Lamination or UV settings
- Special job instructions
- Verify the setup prior to starting the run.
- Follow all Fortis procedures for quality verifications and setup, including Job Check Procedures.
- Complete and sign off on all quality checks as required.
- Utilize the company ERP system to log jobs and job progress, keeping notes for any special situations.
- Monitor the job while running to ensure proper registration and die cut at all times.
- Troubleshoot the machine during and after runs, working with the maintenance department as necessary.
- Communicate with Shift Supervisor, Production Manager, and/or Scheduler regarding issues with the label, including over or under runs, label quality, or ID number questions.
- Participate in end-of-shift handshake to transition to the next die cut operator, noting any active or ongoing issues and confirming machine cleanliness.
- Maintain the work area and machines in a clean and orderly condition, following prescribed Fortis policies and safety regulations.
- Participate in continuous improvement projects as requested.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least one year of press or printing-related experience preferred.
- One year of manufacturing work experience preferred.
Skills
- Basic math skills: working knowledge of decimals, fractions, percentages, and the ability to read ruler measurements.
- Able to read and interpret Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Able to observe, assess, and inspect job tickets and finished goods at close range.
- Strong communication skills with team members and management.
- Must be able to read and understand an English job ticket.
- Proactive and detail-oriented to catch problems or inconsistencies and bring them to management’s attention.
- Team player mentality.
- Mechanical aptitude necessary to understand equipment function and troubleshoot.
- Basic computer knowledge required.
Training
- Willing to attend required training courses or sessions related to the job as assigned.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis and up to 75 pounds with assistance.
- Lifting, sitting, standing, crouching, and repetitive tasks.
- Pass a pre-employment drug test and be subject to random drug screening.
Work Environment
- Regular exposure to dust and noise in the production environment.
- Warehouse environment temperatures may be influenced by outside temperatures.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required: safety shoes and eye protection. Additional PPE may be required depending on the facility.
