About the Role

The Digital Content Editor works with faculty, staff, students, and other contributors to ensure the University has up-to-date and appropriate content on all digital channels. This role ensures consistency in style, tone, branding, and quality, aligning with other marketing materials produced by the University. The ideal candidate will be an expert in graphic design and content creation for digital channels, including websites, fundraising campaigns, marketing campaigns, and social media. This person will collaborate with key stakeholders across the University to maintain the accuracy of information across platforms.

The role requires mastery of the English language, copyediting skills, and the ability to develop compelling graphics, write, and proofread a variety of University materials across print, digital, and marketing media. The Digital Content Editor must be proficient in using a Content Management System (CMS) and creating content calendars for digital materials. This position reports to the Director of University Communications and Marketing.

Responsibilities

  • Create engaging content—graphic design, photographs, videos—for the University’s main social media channels, working with the Assistant Director of Digital Communications to maintain a consistent voice and strategy for the website and social media.
  • Develop content management plans and schedules for updating current and future digital content.
  • Collaborate with deans, department chairs, and other stakeholders to ensure the accuracy of information shared via social media and other digital channels.
  • Work with University Communications and Marketing, Office of Alumni Relations, Institutional Advancement, and other administrative units to maintain consistent messaging and branding across all internal and external communications.
  • Maintain relationships with constituents across the University to create collaborative content that markets services provided by departments and encourages closer collaboration with University Communications and Marketing.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring content consistency in quality, scope, and tone with current University messaging.
  • Create and update social media guidelines for the University and provide training to departments administering social media pages to ensure compliance.
  • Stay up-to-date on social media trends and provide insights on best practices.
  • Maintain records of all social media accounts administered by University divisions and departments, ensuring proper documentation and updates as roles change.
  • Supervise work-study students and student interns assigned to University Communications and Marketing.
  • Perform additional duties such as writing posts and articles, editing video, drafting correspondence, and contributing to the university newsletter.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, communications, or a related field.
  • 2-4 years of experience in digital marketing and online content management, preferably in a similar role.
  • Excellent attention to detail and precision in editing copy.
  • Proficiency in AP-style writing.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (including Publisher), Adobe Acrobat, Illustrator, Photoshop, and other publishing software.
  • Experience with Content Management Systems (CMS) and a general understanding of their functionality.
  • Knowledge of HTML and CSS is helpful but not required.
  • Writing samples are required as part of the application process.

The equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
