About the role

The clinical registered dietitian (RD) uses advanced clinical skills and critical thinking to perform the nutrition care process. Responsibilities include reviewing patient data from medical and other healthcare professionals, conducting in-depth nutrition assessments to determine nutrition diagnoses, recommending appropriate nutrition interventions, and calculating parenteral and enteral nutrition based on assessed needs. The dietitian monitors and evaluates nutrition care plans, adjusting recommendations as needed to improve nutritional status.

This role requires coordination of care with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other health professionals, as well as providing education to individuals, groups, and the community. The duties are technical and complex, demanding advanced skill sets.

Responsibilities

  • Perform in-depth nutrition assessments to determine nutrition diagnoses.
  • Recommend appropriate nutrition interventions, including parenteral and enteral nutrition calculations.
  • Monitor and evaluate nutrition care plans, adjusting recommendations as needed.
  • Coordinate care with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other health professionals.
  • Provide education to individuals, groups, and the community.
  • Occasionally guide and train others, though formal supervisory responsibilities are not part of the role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition.
  • Licensed Dietitian and Registered Dietitian within 9 months of hire.
  • Certification in Nutrition Support, Diabetes, Pediatrics, or Renal preferred.
  • Basic Life Support certification preferred.
  • No prior experience required.

Skills

  • Advanced clinical skills and critical thinking in nutrition care.
  • Ability to perform detailed and lengthy dialogues, including complex problem-solving and stressful encounters.
  • Moderate interpersonal skills for interactions with patients, families, healthcare professionals, and the public.

Working Conditions

  • Very limited exposure to adverse environmental conditions (≤10% of the workday).
  • Minimal health risks; no safety equipment or unusual precautions required.
  • Possible exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
  • Very limited responsibility for material resources (e.g., personal work materials, minor supplies, or small amounts of cash).
