Dietitian Nutritionist - UI Health, Clinical Nutrition

About the role

The Transplant dietitian performs clinical nutritional assessment of patients, designs nutrition protocols and quality improvement initiatives with the medical team, develops meal plans for transplant patients, develops enteral and parenteral regimens, establishes nutritional guidelines for patients and families. This individual demonstrates knowledge of solid organ transplants.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Attend and participate in transplant listing meetings, transplant QAPI meetings, quarterly transplant department meeting and nutrition department meetings.
• Attend daily multidisciplinary inpatient rounds for all transplant patients.
• Evaluate all patients on transplant list annually.
• Educate and provide post-transplant patient care including educational handout materials and meal plans.
• Provide advice on protein and/or calorie supplements, if necessary.
• Provides quality specialized nutrition care and education to patients and their families in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Acts as a resource for staff members and provides guidance regarding nutrition care.
• Train new staff and dietetic Interns; accept responsibility for coaching, teaching, and mentoring to help meet clinical competency requirements.
• Preparation and presentation of staff in-services.
• Demonstrate transplant knowledge experience.
• Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Possession of current Registered Dietitian licensure from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulations and credentials and registration from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
• Possession of a current/valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support CPR Certification.
