This position serves as a registered licensed Dietitian providing nutritional services to elevate the health status of the tribal community. The Dietitian will utilize professional diabetes experience in counseling pre-diabetics and diabetics. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).

Responsibilities

  • Make professional decisions or recommendations concerning nutritional care and dietary changes.
  • Provide consultation, in-service training, education, and nutrition/diet counseling to staff and patients.
  • Conduct nutritional assessments of patients, developing care plans consistent with cultural, social, and psychological requirements.
  • Assist with development of policies and procedures related to nutritional prevention and intervention.
  • Monitor and evaluate activities of nutrition and the special diabetes program for performance improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children. Candidates must not have been found guilty of or pleaded nolo contendere or guilty to certain crimes.

Qualifications

This is a competitive vacancy announcement. To qualify, your resume must demonstrate sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of the position.

  • Basic Requirements: Applicants must meet ONE of the following:
    • Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science from an ACEND-accredited program.
    • Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or clinical component approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND).
    • Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).
  • Minimum Qualifications (GS-09): At least one of the following:
    • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level, such as applying nutrition science principles in healthcare settings, counseling on dietary plans, or assessing patient nutritional status.
    • Two years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent.
    • Combination of education and specialized experience that meets the minimum qualifications.
  • Selective Factor: Current registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (proof required).

You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Education may qualify you for this position; submit transcripts or a list of courses with titles, credit hours, and grades. Foreign education must include a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency.
