Dietetic Technician - NICU - Days/Evenings - Full-Time
About the Role
Woman’s Hospital is a Level III Regional Referral Center, part of a select group of hospitals in the nation equipped to provide quality care for the smallest and sickest babies. Our unit focuses on intensive care while encouraging family bonding. With 24/7 availability of neonatologists and anesthesiologists, our team of neonatologists and specially trained nurses monitors babies' conditions using the latest specialized equipment. We participate in the Vermont Oxford Quality Improvement Collaborative with 500 other NICUs to stay updated on the latest research and emerging practices for premature and critically ill infants.
Responsibilities
- Obtain list of breast milk patients from RNs.
- Check for feeding orders and process orders, performing precise calculations and mixing accordingly.
- Prepare work areas and safely operate equipment.
- Prepare a 24-hour milk supply for each individual patient, including defrosting milk, adding additives if ordered, and drawing up syringes or making bottles.
- Verify bottle/syringe labels with the mother’s label at the infant’s bedside by scanning prior to preparing expressed breast milk.
- Ensure accuracy of labeling for bottles and syringes.
- Check labels on bottles and syringes in the milk preparation room and before placing them into correctly labeled patient bins for proper storage.
- Clean work surfaces and equipment prior to milk preparation and between each patient’s milk preparation.
- Restock used supplies.
- Monitor refrigerator and freezer temperatures and maintain cleanliness daily or as needed.
- Use correct techniques to measure liquids and solids.
- Inform the RN that their patient’s milk is prepared and labeled.
- Perform other duties assigned by Department management according to policies, procedures, and the mission of Woman’s Hospital.
Requirements
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
- Enrolled in or have completed a bachelor’s degree program in Nutrition and Dietetics.
- Previous work experience with breast milk and/or formula preferred.
- Ability to manage a high-volume workload with strong proficiency in mathematical equations.
Schedule
Three 12-hour shifts per week: 6am to 6pm and 9am to 9pm, including every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday).
Pay
Pay range: $16.38 - $23.14 per hour, plus shift differentials.
